Was the hype justified by the movie... being a movie about the Notorious BIG yes because of how essential a figure Big was and still is to this day to hip hop as we all know it.
We all know the story of Biggie and the movie was a very good visual depiction of the life of Christopher Wallace and the ones closest to him. The movie was an accurate re iteration of the picture that the mass media paints to help aid our perception of certain celebrities.
Was the hype justified by the movie in the sense of the acting and screenplay... sorta kinda..
I was impressed by Gravy he nailed it! I couldn't see any one else playing Biggie.
My mans who played Antoine Fisher played Puff, I think. Puff didn't look like Puff, nor sound like Puff, but he said some notable shit that Puff probably has blurted out in a meeting before. Not only that he nailed every dance move we have come to tag Puff with perfectly, which seemed to be the highlight of the movie to me.
The casting crew decided to choose Papa Doc from 8 Mile to play 2Pac.. Not a good look.. I know the west coast is highly upset about how Pac was portrayed.. my mans voice was cracking and sht.. He ain't even look like Pac hardly to me.. they should have got Ja Rule or something.
Violetta Wallace was played by Angela Bassett. She never has a horrible acting performance, and for the most part these other actors didn't either, but I thought Biggie's mom was Jamaican and i didn't hear an accent throughout the movie.. just in the very beginning.
Lil Cease was Lil the whole movie.. we thought he was 14 the whole movie...
Now, as for the highly publicized role of Lil Kim.. Well.. I think it was accurate, but exaggerated a bit. She was raunchy but raunchy is almost an understatement. Her role epitomized raunchy. When you think of an example of something raunchy, Lil Kim's performance of "Get Money" was the prime example of something that you would label as such. I'm surprised they did not have her throwing up on stage like the rumor a long time ago said she did.
I was sick that Jay Z did not have a character, I guess it's more to that story. Either Hov ain't wanna be in the movie or he wasn't that important to Biggie's career. But if Hov had a movie he had better put Biggie in it.
I just don't have an opinion about the portrayal of Faith..
The character in the movie that was Craig Mack.. was hilarious.. looking that is.. so hilarious they only showed a brief glimpse of him.
* My FAVORITE Part of the Movie Was The Performance of "Party and Bullshit!!" *
So basically I feel every one should go see the movie based on seeing how your favorite celebrities. It was a good movie that helped solidify Biggies place in hip hop. Even though it was a movie filled with bad impersonations, I am glad I went to see it!
Must See...
